Extended Stay America®: A Leader in Extended-Stay Hospitality
Extended Stay America is the leading mid-priced extended-stay hotel brand in the United States. As the only major hotel brand exclusively focused on the extended-stay category, it has built a reputation over three decades for providing affordable, comfortable accommodations for guests who need a place to call home for a few nights, several weeks, or even months.
History and Leadership
Founded in 1995 by Wayne Huizenga and George Dean Johnson Jr., the company pioneered the extended-stay business model. In January 2025, Extended Stay America celebrated its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of serving guests with affordability, convenience, and genuine care. The company is led by President & CEO Greg Juceam.

Nationwide Presence
With more than 700 hotels nationwide, Extended Stay America has a strong presence across the United States. The company continues to expand, with more than 50 franchised new-construction hotels under contract to open in the coming years.
Whether for business assignments, relocations, home renovations, or personal transitions, Extended Stay America remains the trusted choice for long-term travelers seeking the comforts of home.
Extended Stay America’s FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) is strategically designed to balance durability, functionality, and cost-efficiency for the extended-stay segment.
The brand’s prototype emphasizes longer-life FF&E to minimize replacement costs and support a 25+ year asset lifespan. This includes practical choices like carpet tiles in corridors to reduce flooring replacement expenses and luxury laminate vinyl plank (LVP) flooring throughout guestrooms for enhanced durability.
Guestroom FF&E is centered on the "home away from home" experience. Every suite features a fully equipped kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, and cooking utensils. The design also incorporates modern, functional elements such as open shelving cabinetry, movable workspace desks, raised platform beds for better storage, and USB charge ports in light fixtures.
The FF&E package also extends to public spaces with the StayPlay lobby design, which features welcoming seating and efficient check-in terminals, alongside practical amenities like on-site guest laundry and fitness rooms. Throughout the property, the focus on thoughtful design is evident with features like LED lighting and sound transmission reduction, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment for long-term guests.
